If you set your bar at 'amazing' it's awfully difficult to start. your first paragraph, sketch, formula, sample or concept isn't going to be amazing. your tenth one might not be either. confronted with the gap between your vision of perfect and the reality of what you've created, the easiest path is no path. shrug. admit defeat. hit delete. one more reason to follow someone else and wait for instructions. of course, the only path to amazing runs directly through not-yet-amazing. but not-yet-amazing is a great place to start, because that's where you are.

And so, thanksgiving. its the most amazing holiday. just think about it — it's a miracle that once a year so many millions of americans sit down to exactly the same meal as one another, exactly the same meal they grew up eating, and exactly the same meal they ate a year earlier. the turkey. the sweet potatoes. the stuffing. the pumpkin pie. is there anything else we all can agree so vehemently about? i don't think so.

It'd be nice to just hear, "you did a great job." i don't say this from personal experience because i have an amazing husband who is an amazing father. i say this knowing he does it all the time. he's always great about saying, "you were amazing today." he does it without me having to ask for it and there's something so beautiful about not fishing for that compliment from your partner that gives you that much more of stability and confidence.
