A person's success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.

Leadership is scarce because few people are willing to go through the discomfort required to lead. this scarcity makes leadership valuable...it's uncomfortable to stand up in front of strangers. it's uncomfortable to propose an idea that might fail. it's uncomfortable to challenge the status quo. it's uncomfortable to resist the urge to settle...if you're not uncomfortable in your work as a leader, it's almost certain you're not reaching your potential as a leader.

In the realm of pop celebrity, the bar has been lowered so far that there is no bar. people can be famous for being famous, famous for being infamous, famous for having once been famous and, thanks largely to the internet, famous for not being famous at all.

You go ask any founder of any company why he or she did it, you will never hear, "i wanted to create jobs for the community" as the number one, number two, number three, number four, number five, number 10 reason for doing so. that is a result of the success the business enjoys. creating jobs is not why people start businesses. creating jobs is not how people innovate in business. it's not how they compete.

The whole life-effort of man is to get his life into direct contact with the elemental life of the cosmos, mountain life, cloud life, thunder life, air life, earth life, sun life. to come into immediate felt contact, and so derive energy, power and a dark sort of joy. this effort into sheer naked contact, without an intermediary or mediator is the root meaning of religion.

I update my myspace every day, i update my facebook fan page, but that's about the extent of it. i don't want to get into extended conversations with people on myspace, because there are friends i have extended conversations with every day. i'm on the phone every day. there's like five people i just call and yak with every single day. and that to me is my internet. you can replace the internet with five really smart friends.
