It is so important to remember that, as we travel through life, there will be so many events which we can`t control. these are things that seemingly alter our lives forever or become barriers for living a life of fulfillment. it`s important to remember that the ultimate experience of life is not to be controlled by events. we all have difficult events in our lives - the loss of family members, economics, stress, litigation, government interference in our businesses, health challenges. remember that it is not the events that shape our lives, but, rather, the meaning we attach to them.

Reality became for me a problem after my experience with lsd. before, i had believed there was only one reality, the reality of everyday life. just one true reality and the rest was imagination and was not real. but under the influence of lsd, i entered into realities which were as real and even more real than the one of everyday. and i thought about the nature of reality and i got some deeper insights.

I love the culture of animation. what stop-motion has in common with live-action is that it has many of the same departments. there's hair, costume, makeup in the form of paint, gaffers, electricians. so there's the same sense of real stuff, real light. but it's not like everything happens at once, like it does in live-action. it's all subdivided into these small sets. it's where my strengths are. live-action is just an utterly different world, and i'm not a public enough persona to be big and loud at the front of the ship. i'd rather more quietly interact with the artisan animators.

I think what happens in a religious life is that we have those experiences of affirmation and that one starts to live a christian life or a jewish life or a muslim life or a buddhist life, by affirming that affirmation each day. each day you say 'yes' to that yes. so the life of being a christian for example, is always a life of double affirmation, that you each day say 'yes' to those counter-experiences of saying 'yes', even when you're not experiencing them at that time, you're remaining loyal to that experience.

It is not events and the things one sees and enjoys that produce happiness, but a state of mind which can endow events with its own quality, and we must hope for the duration of this state rather than the recurrence of pleasurable events.
