The song that i will sing is an old song, so old that none knows who made it. it has been handed down through generations and was taught to me when i was but a little lad. it is now my own song. it belongs to me. this is a holy song (medicine-song), and great is its power. the song tells how, as i sing, i go through the air to a holy place where yusun (the supreme being) will give me power to do wonderful things. i am surrounded by little clouds, and as i go through the air i change, becoming spirit only.

Artists love to immerse themselves in chaos in order to put it into form, just as god created form out of chaos in genesis. forever unsatisfied with the mundane, the apathetic, the conventional, they always push on to newer worlds.

There is no insurmountable solitude. all paths lead to the same goal: to convey to others what we are. and we must pass through solitude and difficulty, isolation and silence in order to reach forth to the enchanted place where we can dance our clumsy dance and sing our sorrowful song - but in this dance or in this song there are fulfilled the most ancient rites of our conscience in the awareness of being human and of believing in a common destiny.

I am reminded of a story of lord krishna when he was a cowherd. every night he invites the milkmaids to dance with him in the forest. they come and they dance. the night is dark, the fire in their midst roars and crackles, the beat of the music gets ever faster - the girls dance and dance and dance with their sweet lord, who has made himself so abundant as to be in the arms of each and every girl. but the moment the girls become possessive, the moment each one imagines that krishna is her partner alone, he vanishes. so it is that we should not be jealous of god.
