I talk to groups studying the most advanced spiritual teachings and sometimes these people wonder why nothing is happening in their lives. their motive is the attainment of inner peace for themselves - which of course is a selfish motive. you will not find it with this motive. the motive, if you are to find inner peace, must be an outgoing motive. service, of course, service. giving, not getting. your motive must be good if your work is to have good effect. the secret of life is being of service.

I cannot project the degree of hatred required to make those women run around in crusades against abortion. hatred is what they certainly project, not love for the embryos, which is a piece of nonsense no one could experience, but hatred, a virulent hatred for an unnamed object...their hatred is directed against human beings as such, against the mind, against reason, against ambition, against success, against love, against any value that brings happiness to human life. in compliance with the dishonesty that dominates today's intellectual field, they call themselves "pro-life".

Don't aim at success — the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. for success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. i want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. then you will live to see that in the long run — in the long run, i say — success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think of it.

Almost all education has a political motive: it aims at strengthening some group, national or religious or even social, in the competition with other groups. it is this motive, in the main, which determines the subjects taught, the knowledge offered and the knowledge withheld, and also decides what mental habits the pupils are expected to acquire. hardly anything is done to foster the inward growth of mind and spirit; in fact, those who have had the most education are very often atrophied in their mental and spiritual life.

Aim for the chopping block. if you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. aim past the wood, aim through the wood; aim for the chopping block.

Be willing to make decisions. that's the most important quality in a good leader. don't fall victim to what i call the 'ready-aim-aim-aim-aim syndrome'. you must be willing to fire.
