Well, led zeppelin iv! that's it really. i'll tell you why the album had no title - because we were so fed up with the reactions to the third album, that people couldn't understand why that record wasn't a direct continuation of the second album. and then people said we were a hype and all, which was the furthest thing from what we were. so we just said, `let's put out an album with no title at all!' that way, either people like it or they don't... but we still got bad reviews!

You're not going to hit it every single time, and that's why, when i record an album, i do probably close to 50 songs. each song i record has to get better. if it's not better than the last song that i made, it'll usually linger for a couple of months, and then it'll be put on the backburner, and then there'll be another song that i do, and then it often doesn't make it on the album.

I'd had my whole life to write my first album. i had my no. 1 and my third single out, and they go, 'hey, guess what? we need to start recording the next one.' i'm like, 'uh oh, i got to write another album. well, how am i gonna write 'should've been a cowboy' and 'ain't worth missing' and all that again?' it took me forever to write the first one.

When you go through a tunnel - you're going on a train - you go through a tunnel, the tunnel is dark, but you're still going forward. just remember that. but if you're not going to get up on stage for one night because you're discouraged or something, then the train is going to stop. everytime you get up on stage, if it's a long tunnel, it's going to take a lot of times of going on stage before things get bright again. you keep going on stage, you go forward. every night you go on stage.

The only album that i listen to upon recording a new one is my 'cry' album, because sonically, i think it's my best album to date. but other than that, i've never listened to my records, ever.
