Cool is spent. cool is empty. cool is ex post facto. when advertisers and pundits hoard a word, you know it's time to retire from it. to move on. i want to suggest, therefore, that we begin to avoid cool now. cool is a trick to get you to buy garments made by sweatshop laborers in third world countries. cool is the triumph of the will. cool enables you to step over bodies. cool enables you to look the other way. cool makes you functional, eager for routine distraction, passive, doped, stupid.

Every day i'd say i look different. sometimes i look really formal, sometimes i love the classic stella mccartney, chloe sevigny and gwyneth paltrow thing. other days i like being rock star and wearing leather jackets and studs. i love wearing burberry - it's the perfect combination of formal and punky.

I don't have a favourite designer because i feel every designer offers something different and special, but i do really like alexander wang, burberry, stella mccartney and balmain.

But the difference between the little pieces and the big pieces - i'm not actually sure which are the little pieces. with some of the big pieces, it's a lot of musical running around, whereas the little pieces, you can say everything you want to say.

I see a lot of people dressing very similarly, and i see brands being cool because of their name and because of who wears the brands, but that's always been the case. that's kind of the history of fashion. you know, celebrities wear their clothes and people think these celebrities are cool, and then the clothes become valuable. it gives clothes a commodity factor once a certain individual starts wearing that brand. but do i think there's something wrong? i think what's wrong with the fashion world, particularly men's fashion, is the lack of creativity behind it.

Clothes and jewellery should be startling, individual. when you see a woman in my clothes, you want to know more about them. to me, that is what distinguishes good designers from bad designers.
