I've never wanted to be anything other than an actor. i started performing on broadway when i was 8 years old. my first night on stage, i told my mom, "this is what i want to do. i was always a very out-there kid. the sad thing about acting business is it's so fleeting. if i couldn't do that, i was going to go to school and study law and become a lawyer. but i probably would have been miserable, or they would have had some very theatrical court sessions.

If you don't go to broadway, you're a fool. on broadway, off broadway, above broadway, below broadway, go! don't tell me there isn't something wonderful playing. if i'm home in new york at night, i'm either at a broadway or an off broadway show. we're in the theater capital of the world, and if you don't get it, you're an idiot.

And i don't consider broadway the acropolis of theatrical art. i mean broadway is commercial - that's what it is. it's expensive seats and a lot of them that have to be filled every night. off-broadway and off-off broadway as far as i'm concerned is in new york the pride of new york theater.

I started acting when i was five years old. i found it randomly, through listening to my brother study monologues. i auditorally started memorizing them for no reason, and started repeating them to anyone who would listen to me. and then, i begged my mom to let me do whatever that meant because i couldn't put into words exactly what that meant. it just meant me happy. and then, when i was 11 years old, i realized what i was doing and i looked to my mom and said, "can i make this something i can do for the rest of my life?" she was like, "yeah, sure, if you want to." and i was like, "okay, great! i think i might want to do this forever."

A problem with school is that you often become what you study. if you study, let say cooking, you become a chef. if you study law, you become an attorney, and a study of auto mechanics makes you mechanics. the mistake in becoming what you study is that, too many people forget to mind their own business. they spend their lives minding someone else's business and making that person rich

When you go through a tunnel - you're going on a train - you go through a tunnel, the tunnel is dark, but you're still going forward. just remember that. but if you're not going to get up on stage for one night because you're discouraged or something, then the train is going to stop. everytime you get up on stage, if it's a long tunnel, it's going to take a lot of times of going on stage before things get bright again. you keep going on stage, you go forward. every night you go on stage.
