The trouble is that millennials and many recent products of the public schools believe that america was made great, if they're even taught that it's great, if they're taught that it's great, you know what they're told is the reason? diversity. there's diversity all over the world. you can go to places where there is diversity out the wazoo, folks. you can go to places all over the place world and you can find the most diversity, you can find perfect diversity, however you find it. you will not find a united states.

I don't know if it's ever happened to you, but it's one of my funniest and saddest experiences, when you go into a hotel, and they have an accessible walk-in shower. so you go in and open the curtain, and there is a bench off to the side of the shower. however, the shower is rectangular. on one side there's a bench, but the faucets are across from you. so if you sit on the bench, you cannot reach the faucets.

...the court ...[recognizes]...the persistence of racial inequality and a majority's acknowledgement of congress's authority to act affirmatively, not only to end discrimination, but also to counteract discrimination's lingering effects. those effects, reflective of a system of racial caste [legal segregation and discrimination] only recently ended, are evident in our work places, markets, and neighborhoods. job applicants with identical resumes, qualifications, and interview styles still experience different receptions, depending on their race.

We have a lot more work to do in our common struggle against bigotry and discrimination. i say "common struggle" because i believe very strongly that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are equally wrong and should be opposed by right-thinking americans everywhere. freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination.

I never will let anyone make, maneuver me into making a distinction between the mississippi form of discrimination and the new york city form of discrimination. it's, it's both discrimination; it's all discrimination.

Katherine johnson never complained, it just was what it was. she just said, "i just wanted to go to work and do my numbers." and she stopped right there. i think about that as a black woman in hollywood when i'm asked about diversity. i hate when people say diversity because the first thing you jump to is black and white. when you talk about diversity, you're talking about women being hired in front of and behind the camera. you are talking about people with disabilities, the lgbtq community...so i hate when people think about diversity.
