We see that there are two different kinds of...societies: (a) parasitic societies and (b) producing societies. the former are those which live from hunting, fishing, or merely gleaning. by their economic activities they do not increase, but rather decrease, the amount of wealth in the world. the second kind of societies, producing societies, live by agricultural and pastoral activities. by these activities they seek to increase the amount of wealth in the world.

The major difference for us in america with respect to hispanic immigration is that it is so large and that it is coming from neighboring countries rather than those countries off the atlantic or pacific. that creates different issues and different problems for us as compared to the past. it is still very different, however, from the situation in europe where we see people with a very different non-european religion coming from neighboring countries.

One of the defining characteristics or difference between today's illegal immigration and the immigration of old is the immigrants of the late 1800s through the early 1920s came here desiring to become americans. they wanted to become part of what was a unique and distinct american culture. they were all coming from tyranny of one kind or another.
