NY Highways, which runs the winter service on behalf of North Yorkshire Council, has entered a seven-year lease with Ripon-based engineering agency Econ.
The £5.7 million contract will see 31 new gritters deal with the county’s 5,800 miles of roads, which, laid finish to finish, would run from Northallerton to Tokyo.
The gritters have been delivered in batches ranging from October, and the ultimate ones might be on the street by January.
