A rugby league participant who was charged with rape, sexual assault and two counts of assault has fled to his house nation of Papua New Guinea.
Keven Appo, 25, who performed for Bradford Bulls, was given conditional bail at 16:00 GMT on 26 November, Bradford Magistrates’ Court docket heard on Monday.
By 20:40 GMT that night Mr Appo had boarded a flight to Dubai from Manchester Airport and subsequently arrived in Papua New Guinea by way of a connecting flight.
Prosecutor Fiona Newcombe instructed the court docket an extradition course of was now underway to return Mr Appo to the UK to face the costs in opposition to him.
Mr Appo had been on account of seem for a listening to on the court docket on Monday morning.
He had given his home and automotive keys to the supervisor of the rugby membership, Ms Newcombe instructed the court docket.
She stated authorities would now work with police in Papua New Guinea to extradite him.
Mr Appo, of Halifax, was sacked by Bradford Bulls after he was charged with the offences.
In a press release the membership beforehand stated they’d “cancelled Keven Appo’s enjoying contract”.
