The left does understand how raising taxes reduces economic activity. how about their desire for increasing cigarette taxes, soda taxes? what are they trying to do? get you to buy less. they know. they know that higher taxes reduce activity. it's real simple: if you want more of an activity, lower taxes on it. if you want less of an activity, raise taxes. so if you want more jobs? it's very simple. you lower payroll taxes. if you don't want as many jobs, then you raise corporate taxes. it's that simple, folks.

I thought you liberals cared about people, but here you're perfectly content to get them addicted to tobacco and make them pay taxes through the nose and continue to pay taxes through the nose and raise their taxes. and then you try to make 'em think you care about 'em by running psas telling them how they shouldn't smoke and how they should quit. you're exactly right. if they really cared, they would ban the product, but they can't, because the revenue from tobacco taxes - i'm not kidding you - funds children's health care programs, and a number of other things as well.

Of course the issue of ending war, and creating prosperity; they're overarching issues all the time. but right now, the challenge to this generation i believe is the climate crisis. it's a national security issue, it's a health issue in terms of clean air, it's a competitiveness issue in terms of innovation and it's a moral issue to preserve the planet for the next generation.

The tax issue is the most powerful issue in american politics going back to the tea party. people say, 'oh, grover norquist has power.' no. grover norquist and americans for tax reform focus on the tax issue. the tax issue is a powerful issue.

Another response to racism has been the establishment of unlearning racism workshops, which are often led by white women. these workshops are important, yet they tend to focus primarily on cathartic individual psychological personal prejudice without stressing the need for corresponding change in political commitment and action. a woman who attends an unlearning racism workshop and learns to acknowledge that she is racist is no less a threat than one who does not. acknowledgment of racism is significant when it leads to transformation.

To mystify, in the active sense, is to befuddle, cloud, obscure, mask whatever is going on, whether this be experience, action, or process, or whatever is "the issue." it induces confusion in the sense that there is failure to see what is "really" being experienced, or being done, or going on, and failure to distinguish or discriminate the actual issues. this entails the substitution of false for true constructions of what is being experienced, being done (praxis), or going on (process), and the substitution of false issues for the actual issues.
