I never wanted to be a celebrity; i never wanted to be famous. and in my daily life, i work really hard to not trade on it in any way. i am so desperately worried about anybody saying, "she cut in line," or "she took our table," or "she doesn't do her own grocery shopping." it's not like it's hard to be decent and respectful and well behaved. i do wait in line, and i do take the subway, and i do my own grocery shopping, and i do take the kids to school. but it almost doesn't matter to a certain segment of the populace.

The writing is really hard. you're alone. it really pulls it out of you. you pull it out of your head. but when you're a director, you're shopping - you're picking this actor, you're picking this scene. it's like the most intense kinetic high-speed shopping of all time. you sit in a chair and it will all come rushing at you like a wind tunnel.

For years now i've kind of operated under an informal shopping cycle. a bit like a farmer's crop rotation system. except, instead of wheat, maize, barley, and fallow, mine pretty much goes clothes, makeup shoes, and clothes (i don't bother with fallow). shopping is actually very similar to farming a field. you can't keep buying the same thing, you have to have a bit of variety. otherwise you get bored and stop enjoying yourself.
