Why has mankind had such a craving to be imposed upon? why this lust after imposing creeds, imposing deeds, imposing buildings, imposing language, imposing works of art? the thing becomes an imposition and a weariness at last. give us things that are alive and flexible, which won't last too long and become an obstruction and a weariness. even michelangelo becomes at last a lump and a burden and a bore. it is so hard to see past him.

"judge not, that ye be not judge"... is an abdication of moral responsibility: it is a moral blank check one gives to others in exchange for a moral blank check one expects for oneself. there is no escape from the fact that men have to make choices; so long as men have to make choices, there is no escape from moral values; so long as moral values are at stake, no moral neutrality is possible. to abstain from condemning a torturer, is to become an accesory to the torture and murder of his victims. the moral principle to adopt... is: "judge, and be prepared to be judged."

Activist supreme courts are not new. the dred scott decision in 1856, imposing slavery in free territories; the plessy decision in 1896, imposing segregation on a private railroad company; the korematsu decision in 1944, upholding franklin roosevelt’s internment of american citizens, mostly japanese americans; and the roe decision in 1973, imposing abortion on the entire nation; are examples of the consequences of activist courts and justices.

Too many people in america believe that if you are pro-choice that means pro-abortion. it doesn't. i don't want abortion. abortion should be the rarest thing in the world. i am actually personally opposed to abortion. but i don't believe that i have a right to take what is an article of faith to me and legislate it to other people. that's not how it works in america.

In the specific case of abortion, the matter is particularly easy in that no woman wants a late abortion. once abortion was made legal, the age of the aborted fetus went down. the slope slipped in the other direction. if we legalize ru-486 and other similar new drugs, the age will fall to one week or less and start approaching zero. the slippery slope will slide in the other direction. the only reason we have late abortions is because we make early abortion difficult.
