When we speak of faith—the faith that can move mountains—we are not speaking of faith in general but of faith in the lord jesus christ. faith in the lord jesus christ can be bolstered as we learn about him and live our religion. the doctrine of jesus christ was designed by the lord to help us increase our faith.

Here we are told that christ really lives in me, if i have accepted christ as my savior. in other words, we have the words of jesus to the thief of the cross, 'today thou wilt be with me in paradise.' christ can say, 'today thou wilt be with me in paradise,' and mean it. to die is to be with the lord. it is not just an idea, it is a reality. but at the same time, christ, the same christ who gives the promise just as definitely, that when i have accepted christ as my savior, he lives in me.

The old testament records the preparation for the coming of the messiah. the gospels record the coming of the messiah, jesus christ our lord. the book of acts records the propagation of the gospel (the good news) concerning jesus christ. the epistles (letters) explain the gospel and its implications for our lives. the book of revelation anticipates and describes the second coming of jesus christ and the establishment of his eternal kingdom. from beginning to end, the bible glorifies jesus christ and centers on him. its christ-centeredness is one of its wonderful features.

Christ be with me, christ within me, christ behind me, christ before me, christ beside me, christ to win me, christ to comfort me and restore me, christ beneath me, christ above me, christ in quiet, christ in danger, christ in hearts of all that love me, christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

To follow jesus implies that we enter into a way of life that is given character and shape and direction by the one who calls us. to follow jesus means picking up rhythms and ways of doing things that are often unsaid but always derivative from jesus, formed by the influence of jesus. to follow jesus means that we can't separate what jesus is saying from what jesus is doing and the way that he is doing it. to follow jesus is as much, or maybe even more, about feet as it is about ears and eyes" (the way of jesus, eugene h. peterson, 22).

Not only do we know god by jesus christ alone, but we know ourselves only by jesus christ. we know life and death only through jesus christ. apart from jesus christ, we do not know what is our life, nor our death, nor god, nor ourselves.
