In principle, i think the idea of rewarding a good effort is interesting, but movies are generally different from each other as are performances and the conditions on how the performances are given and how they're edited and so forth.

A strong woman is a woman who craves love like oxygen or she turns blue choking. a strong woman is a woman who loves strongly and weeps strongly and is strongly terrified and has strong needs. a strong woman is strong in words, in action, in connection, in feeling; she is not strong as a stone but as a wolf suckling her young. strength is not in her, but she enacts it as the wind fills a sail.

One of the keys is, and it may sound funny, talking about characters with super powers, but one of the keys is to make your characters as realistic and believable as possible. even if they have super powers, you say to yourself, "well, if somebody had a super power like this, what would his life be like? wouldn't he still maybe have to go to the dentist or wouldn't he have to worry about making a living? what about his love life?" you've got to make characters that your reader can believe exists or might exist.

I wanted to do serious movies. i had a certain idea of what good acting was. that's since changed, and i love doing comedies now. i don't like a lot of those movies now, but i thought those were movies that i could do real, serious performances in.

I only pay to take my son to the movies, because most of the time i only watch european movies, independent movies, or screen them privately. but i like to go to movies with my son because it's still fun; it reminds me of why i make movies.

I said it before and i’ll say it again: books are dead, plays are dead, poems are dead: there’s only movies. music is still okay, because music is sound track. ten, fifteen years ago, every arts student wanted to be a novelist or a playwright. i’d be amazed if you could find a single one now with such a dead-end ambition. they all want to make movies. not write movies. you don’t write movies. you make movies.
