To live is to be someone else. feeling is impossible if we feel today as we felt yesterday: to feel today the same thing we felt yesterday is not to feel at all--it's merely to remember today what we felt yesterday, since today we are the living cadaver of yesterday's lost life.

I got letters from people that have had peculiar psychic experiences, experiences with the dead - sometimes fairly tranquil experiences and sometimes very terrifying experiences. i do believe that a lot of them are sincere. i do believe, also, that some of them may be misguided. but, i think the majority of them have experienced something.

It is also possible within this lifetime to enhance the power of the mind, enabling one to reaccess memories from previous lives. such recollection tends to be more accessible during meditative experiences in the dream state. once one has accessed memories of previous lives in the dream state, one gradually recalls them in the waking state.

I sleep during the day. i still dream about drinking and drugs. sometimes i wake to a hang-over, sometimes i wake to a trickle of blood from my nose, sometimes i wake scared and shaking. i read, go to museums and visit lilly in the afternoon. sometimes i read to her, sometimes i talk to her, sometimes i just sit and remember the times, remember the times, remember the times." All our thoughts and concepts are called up by sense-experiences and have a meaning only in reference to these sense-experiences. on the other hand, however, they are products of the spontaneous activity of our minds; they are thus in no wise logical consequences of the contents of these sense-experiences. if, therefore, we wish to grasp the essence of a complex of abstract notions we must for the one part investigate the mutual relationships between the concepts and the assertions made about them; for the other, we must investigate how they are related to the experiences.

I don't have any romanticism about any part of my past. i think of it only inasmuch as it gave me pleasure or helped me grow psychologically. that is the only thing that interests me about yesterday. i don't believe in yesterday, by the way. you know i don't believe in yesterday. i am only interested in what i am doing now.
