I had to learn to think, feel, and see in a totally new fashion, in an uneducated way, in my own way, which is the hardest thing in the world. i had to throw myself into the current, knowing that i would probably sink. the great majority of artists are throwing themselves in with life preservers around their necks, and more often than not it is the life preserver, which sinks them. nobody can drown in the ocean of reality who voluntarily gives herself up to the experience. whatever there be of progress in life comes not through adaptation but through daring, through obeying the blind urge.

They always believe that 'things are in a bad way now,' but they 'haven't any faith in these idealists.' one minute they call wilson 'just a dreamer, not practical'- a year later they rail at him for making his dreams realities. they haven't clear logical ideas on one single subject except a sturdy, stolid opposition to all change. they don't think uneducated people should be highly paid, but they won't see that if they don't pay the uneducated people their children are going to be uneducated too, and we're going round and round in a circle. that- is the great middle class.

I sit in the sink (while applying makeup). i do. i've broken more sinks...i sit in the sink, on top of a big square sink in my bathroom with my feet in the basin so i'm very close to the mirror with the good light, and i'm very comfortable. i also manage to put my two phones in the sink so that nothing, but nothing, could get me out of there.

If we're having a glitzy over-the-top moment, fashion is very glitzy and over-the-top, you know, over-the-top. if we're having a moment where things are, you know, we're in a recession, fashion becomes quiet. so, in terms of popular culture, fashion and especially women's fashion is incredibly interesting, aside from satisfying just a particular need to create and arrange things in a way that one sees as beautiful. and so, in a certain way, it's fulfilling. in another way, it's very fleeting because it doesn't last very long. you know, a beautiful moment in fashion goes away very quickly.

All of this unrest and all the riots and all the protests, really the anger is at all of you who voted for donald trump and voted for republicans. that's really the nub of it. they're angry at trump, but trump wouldn't be there if it weren't for you. they are angry. they feel rejected. the american people, and i've already told you how they think of trump voters. they think trump voters are uneducated, deliverance types. you're fools, you're idiots, you're uneducated, you're unsophisticated, you're just an embarrassment, you're an american embarrassment.

Knowing god without knowing our own wretchedness makes for pride. knowing our own wretchedness without knowing god makes for despair. knowing jesus christ strikes the balance because he shows us both god and our own wretchedness.
