I love paint. i like watercolours. i like acrylic paint... a little bit. i like house paint. i like oil-based paint, and i love oil paint. i love the smell of turpentine and i like that world of oil paint very, very, very much.

People have said over the years that the reason i did not give up my seat was because i was tired. i did not think of being physically tired. my feet were not hurting. i was tired in a different way. i was tired of seeing so many men treated as boys and not called by their proper names or titles. i was tired of seeing children and women mistreated and disrespected because of the color of their skin. i was tired of jim crow laws, of legally enforced racial segregation.

I find the fact that so few people buy albums to be strangely emancipating. there's absolutely no reason for 99% of musicians making albums to think about actually selling albums. so as a musician you can just make an album for the love of making albums.

That's what is so great about being able to record a 13-song album. you can do a very eclectic group of songs. you do have some almost pop songs in there, but you do have your traditional country, story songs. you have your ballads, your happy songs, your sad songs, your love songs, and your feisty songs.

Guy picciotto had a really sound point: live albums basically have bands playing songs that are available on studio records, and what example can you think of where the live album is better? what are the great live albums? i have live albums of bands, but i wouldn't listen to them for the most part. so we thought, instead of spending energy trying to puzzle out how to create a live record, let's just write another studio record.
