I think the only way one can really determine whether extremism in the defense of liberty is justified, is not to approach it as an american or a european or an african or an asian, but as a human being. if we look upon it as different types, immediately we begin to think in terms of extremism being good for one and bad for another, or bad for one and good for another. but if we look upon it, if we look upon ourselves as human beings, i doubt that anyone will deny that extremism in defense of liberty, the liberty of any human being, is no vice.

I have now come to a stage of realization in which i see that god is walking in every human form and manifesting himself alike through the sage and the sinner, the virtuous and the vicious. therefore when i meet different people i say to myself, “god in the form of the saint, god in the form of the sinner, god in the form of the righteous, god in the form of the unrighteous.

The statue of liberty was never meant to be a symbol of immigration. it was meant to be a symbol of liberty and freedom. lady liberty is stepping forward. she is meant to be carrying the torch of liberty from the united states to the rest of the world. the torch is not to light the way to the united states. it is to light the way to liberty to the rest of the world. lady liberty is carrying the light of liberty to the rest of the world. it is not a beacon for immigrants to get to this country because they're tired, they're poor, they're huddled, hungry, or thirsty.

I do not know what might be the most fitting description.... i am a sinner. this is the most accurate definition. it is not a figure of speech, a literary genre. i am a sinner. and this is what i said when they asked me if i would accept my election as pontiff: i am a sinner, but i trust in the infinite mercy and patience of our lord jesus christ, and i accept in a spirit of penance.
