I asked for strength, and god gave me difficulties to make me strong. i asked for wisdom, and god gave me problems to learn to solve. i asked for prosperity, and god gave me a brain and brawn to work. i asked for courage, and god gave me dangers to overcome. i asked for love, and god gave me people to help. i asked for favors, and god gave me opportunities. i received nothing i wanted. i received everything i needed.

Jesus on the cross feels the whole weight of the evil, and with the force of god's love he conquers it; he defeats it with his resurrection. this is the good that jesus does for us on the throne of the cross. christ's cross, embraced with love, never leads to sadness, but to joy, to the joy of having been saved and of doing a little of what he did on the day of his death.

We americans commercialize everything. look at what we did to christmas. christmas is jesus' birthday. now, i don't know jesus, but from what i read he was the least materialistic person who ever walked the earth. no bling on jesus. he kept a low profile and we turned his birthday into the most commercial day of the year. in fact we have a whole jesus birthday season. and then at the end of it, we have the nerve to have an economist come on tv and say what a horrible jesus birthday season we had.
