Better the hard truth, i say, than the comforting fantasy. and in the final tolling it often turns out that the facts are more comforting than the fantasy.

I really wish that peoplewould just say, 'yes, it's a comic. yes, this is fantasy. yes, this is science fiction,' and defend the genre instead of saying, 'horror is a bit passe so this is dark fantasy,' and that' s playing someone else's game. so that's why i say i'm a fantasy writer and to hell with 'it doesn't read like what i think of as a fantasy'. in that case what you think of as a fantasy is not a fantasy. or there is more to it than you think.

If you are going to write, say, fantasy - stop reading fantasy. you've already read too much. read other things; read westerns, read history, read anything that seems interesting, because if you only read fantasy and then you start to write fantasy, all you're going to do is recycle the same old stuff and move it around a bit.

If some good evidence for life after death were announced, i'd be eager to examine it; but it would have to be real scientific data, not mere anecdote. as with the face on mars and alien abductions, better the hard truth, i say, than the comforting fantasy.

There has been a lot of bad fantasy in the past - i'm by no means saying that all classic fantasy out there is bad - but there has been a lot of bad fantasy written by people who read a lot of fantasy and so all they keep doing is recycling it.

It is not given to man to know the whole truth. his duty lies in living up to the truth as he sees it, and in doing so, to resort to the purest means, i.e., to non-violence. god alone knows absolute truth. therefore, i have often said, truth is god. it follows that man, a finite being, cannot know absolute truth. nobody in this world possesses absolute truth. this is god's attribute alone. relative truth is all we know. therefore, we can only follow the truth as we see it. such pursuit of truth cannot lead anyone astray.
