We cannot close ourselves off to information and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering. i honestly want to help. i don't believe i feel differently from other people. i think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning. all of us would like to believe that if we were in a bad situation someone would help us.

Nobody wants to admit to this, but bad things will keep on happening. maybe that's beause it's all a chain, and a long time ago someone did the first bad thing, and that led someone else to do another bad thing, and so on. you know, like that game where you whisper a sentence into someone's ear, and that person whispers it to someone else, and it all comes out wrong in the end. but then again, maybe bad things happen because it's the only way we can keep remembering what good is supposed to look like.

If we are too busy, if we are carried away every day by our projects, our uncertainty, our craving, how can we have the time to stop and look deeply into the situation-our own situation, the situation of our beloved one, the situation of our family and of our community, and the situation of our nation and of the other nations?

I firmly believe that if you help a woman, then you educate a child, you help the family. because women are very focused on health care and education and on the family. so if you help a woman, you help the family, you help the village, you help the country. and so empowering women is a very important part of moving, not just women forward, but the economy of the nation forward. particularly in very substandard nations.

Someone real," i hear myself saying. "someone who never has to pretend, and who i never have to pretend around. someone who's smart, but knows how to laugh at himself. someone who would listen to a symphony and start to cry, because he understands music can be too big for words. someone who knows me better than i know myself. someone i want to talk to first thing in the morning and last thing at night. someone i feel like i've known my whole life, even if i haven't.

I believe in the fundamental truth of all great religions of the world. i believe that they are all god- given and i believe that they were necessary for the people to whom these religions were revealed. and i believe that if only we could all of us read the scriptures of the different faiths from the standpoints of the followers of these faiths, we should find that they were at bottom all one and were all helpful to one another.
