FBI sent a team to ‘exploit’ Portland protesters’ phones

Members of the Home Committee on Homeland Safety have these days nervous that federal brokers have held on to seized telephones for months.

The FBI declined to touch upon the main points of the operation, citing the “ongoing nature” of circumstances like this. It maintained that the Portland exercise met “all of our authorized necessities,” and that it had “not been centered on peaceable protests.”

These claims may not be sufficient to fulfill some critics. Senator Ron Wyden has demanded readability on FBI and Homeland Safety exercise in Portland, saying that it might be “outrageous” if Oregon residents confronted federal surveillance like telephone exploits due solely to their politics. With out transparency, it’s not sure that the FBI or DHS revered protesters’ digital rights.
